Singapore: My Home

It is sure good to be back to Singapore after my 10 day trip to Sichuan, China! Its funny how I have made Singapore my home and more amazing is that my husband has also since regarded Singapore as home even though he has only been here for 5 years.

I was born in Indonesia and my parents migrated to Singapore when I was a mere 6 months old baby. Although my siblings and I attended school in Singapore, holidays were spent in Indonesia. Language spoken at home is a mixture of Indo, English and Chinese. Passport is Indonesian, IC is Singaporean. Speaks all three languages with a Singaporean accent! Married an Indonesian husband but has a Singaporean father. Had no Indonesian friends till I was in University where the majority of my friends were Indonesian......actually improved my Indonesian language instead of English when I was in USA.

Hahaha, confusing, ain't it! We (my siblings and I) are indeed a race of our own. Unlike our parents who most definitely think of themselves foremost as Indonesians, my siblings and I just do not belong to either nationality. Yes, technically speaking, because our passports are green in colour, we always write Indonesian in the nationality box when we fill out forms but identity wise, we are on our own. When placed among Indonesians, we definitely look Singaporean. And yet when you place us beside a bunch of Singaporeans, we have that defining Indonesian touch.

Perhaps, we would never find others like us but knowing that there are 5 others out there like me, I find comfort that I will never be lonely or not find someone who understands!!!!!

Meanwhile, this is a snack that we bought from Korea and only opened it up recently. There was a wonderful surprise inside!!!!!! These Koreans are really really creative. I could not stop feeling amazed when I saw what they included inside.
